On 22 November 2017, the Chinese Ambassador H. E. Dr. Sun Xianghua held a briefing on the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the senior officials of the Lesotho government. More than 80 governmental officials including Hon. Lesego Makgothi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations and his deputy Hon. Halebonoe Setsabi, Hon. Thesele Maseribane, Minister of Public Service, Hon. Mokhele Moletsane, Minister of Education and Training, Hon. Temeki Phoenix Tsolo, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Hon. Mahala Molapo, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Lehlohonolo Moramotse, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Hon. Nyapane Kaya, Minister of Health, Hon. Tlohelang Aumane, Minister of Development Planning, Hon. Mokoto Hloaele, Minister of Energy and Meteorology, Hon. Mampho Mokhele, Minister of Police and Public Safety, Principal Secretaries and directors from multiple Ministries attended the briefing.
Ambassador Sun introduced the background information on CPC national congress, and briefed about the key thoughts, decisions, and policy principles put forward in the 19th National Congress. He indicated that the 19th National Congress not only bears great significance to China itself, but also to the whole world. As President Xi advocated, China will work to construct a community with a shared future of mankind and construct a new form of international relations featuring mutual-respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation. China will adhere to a road of peaceful and opening up development, push forward economic globalization, pursue a global governance system based on joint-consultation, joint-contribution as well as shared ownership and benefits, and help the developing countries including African countries to accelerate their developments through enhanced South-South Cooperation. Ambassador Sun emphasized that in the recent years, China-Lesotho relationships have maintained a vigorous momentum. Both sides should get hold of the historical opportunity provided by the 19th National Congress and bring more benefits to the two peoples by deepening further the practical cooperation.
Hon. Makgothi extended warm congratulations to the CPC on behalf of the government of Lesotho, and gratitude to Ambassador Sun for his detailed and straightforward briefing. He expressed strong confidence that under the leadership of the CPC with President Xi as its core, the Chinese people will successfully fulfill the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation. Lesotho attaches great importance to the China-Lesotho relationship, support the two constructs advocated by President Xi, and will work together with China to strengthen practical cooperation bilaterally and under the framework of FOCAC, to achieve mutual beneficial development.
The officials received the briefing with warm responses, commending highly the development achievements of China and speaking highly of the diplomatic policies of China at the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
