Ceremony of Exchanging Letters Held on China Aid Maseru District Hospital and Eye Clinic Project

On 10 January 2018, the Ceremony of Exchanging Letters on China Aid Maseru District Hospital and Eye Clinic Project was jointly held by the Embassy of the P. R. China in Lesotho and the Government of Lesotho. The Chinese Ambassador H. E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, 8 cabinet members of Lesotho including Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Monyane Moleleki, Minister of Development Planning Hon. Tlohelang Aumane, Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Correctional Services Hon. Mahali Phamotse, Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs Hon. Habofanoe Lehana, Minister of Public Works and Transport Hon. Lehlohonolo Moramotse, he Minister of Energy and Meteorology Hon. Mokoto Hloaele, Deputy Minister of Health Hon. 'Manthabiseng Phohleli, and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Machesetsa Mofomobe, Principal Secretaries and directors from relevant ministries as well as representatives from local media attended the Ceremony.

Ambassador Sun and Hon. Aumane signed and exchanged the Letters respectively on behalf of the governments of China and Lesotho. In his remarks, Ambassador Sun indicated the Hospital Project is a concrete outcome of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit in Lesotho, the single largest infrastructure and project involving people's livelihood that China had donated to Lesotho up until now, and also a tangible action showing China's determination and resolve in constructing a community of shared future for mankind as advocated by President Xi Jinping. Once built, the hospital will significantly promote the medical services in Lesotho and bring tangible benefits to Basotho.

Hon. Moleleki regarded the Hospital as a precious gift from the Chinese government and people that will improve greatly the medical services in Lesotho, and extended on behalf of the government, medical practitioners and people of Lesotho, most sincere appreciations to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government and people. He indicated that China has provided numerous aids to Lesotho over the years. The Chinese companies and expatriates in Lesotho also made significant contributions to the economic and social development of Lesotho. Lesotho will unswervingly promote its friendship with China, which is in the fundamental interests of the Basotho nation and people.

Hon. Aumane said the hospital project shows that China attaches great importance to and supports the efforts of the government of Lesotho in developing medical services and bettering people's lives. He also extended gratitude to China for the generous assistance.
