Chinese Embassy in Lesotho Launches Bilateral Cooperation Mechanism with Lesotho

On January 20, the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho launched a bilateral cooperation mechanism with Lesotho. Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho, Mr. Lehohla, and Deputy Principal Secretary Ms. Motsamai led more than 40 Lesotho diplomats in attending the event.

H.E. Ambassador Yang Xiaokun introduced the historic significance and fruitful outcomes of Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Lesotho. He emphasized that, in order to implement the consensus reached between The Right Honorable Prime Minister Samuel Matekane and H.E. Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lesotho have established a bilateral cooperation mechanism. Through this mechanism, both sides will strengthen communication and coordination on important issues and cooperation projects of mutual concern, and work to ensure that the outcomes of the visit deliver tangible benefits to both countries and their peoples at an early date.

Mr. Lehohla highly commended the milestone significance of Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit. On behalf of the Government and people of Lesotho, he expressed sincere gratitude for China’s valuable support and assistance at a time when Lesotho faced external challenges. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lesotho stands ready to take the launch of the bilateral cooperation mechanism as an opportunity to work closely with the Embassy to implement the outcomes of the visit and promote the Lesotho–China strategic partnership to new heights. Lesotho also reaffirmed its firm commitment to the one-China principle.
