On September 12, the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho held a press briefing on the Global Governance Initiative. Around 20 journalists attended, including journalists from Lesotho News Agency and Lesotho Television, the country’s three major newspapers, as well as other independent media outlets.

Ambassador Yang elaborated on the background, core concepts, global significance, and way forward of the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. He stressed that the initiative, as well as the three other major global initiatives, have their respective priorities and can be pursued simultaneously. They will each be a source of positive energy for a changing and turbulent world. China will remain firm in safeguarding the international system with the U.N. at its core and the international order underpinned by international law. China stands ready to work with all parties to explore ways to improve global governance and to jointly advance toward a community with a shared future for humanity.

During the briefing, Ambassador Yang also took questions from reporters on the implementation of the Global Governance Initiative, the post-war international order, and reform of the U.N. Security Council. Prior to the event, he gave a joint interview to Lesotho’s state media on the Global Governance Initiative.
