On March 21, Lai Bo, Chargé d' affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho granted an exclusive interview to Ms. Tsitsi Matope, reporter of Public Eye, a major newspaper in Lesotho, on China-Africa Co-operation, China-Lesotho relations, the role of Chinese communities in Lesotho and other issues.

On China-Africa Cooperation, Lai pointed out that China shares similar historical experience with African countries and both are faced with common task of developing national economy and improving people's livelihood. Although China has ranked second in terms of the aggregate economic output in the world, it remains a developing country with various problems such as unemployment, imbalance of regional development and gap between rich and poor. China has consistently developing cooperation with African countries on the basis of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit and is ready to share development experience and fruits with them. Ever since the launch of China-Africa Cooperation Forum, African countries including Lesotho have enjoyed tangible benefits from it and have expressed their sincere gratitude to China for the latter's selfless aid. The people of Africa have their independent judgment on the China-Africa Cooperation, against which some Western media have directed groundless accusations fraught with biases.
On bilateral relations, Lai said that since the resumption of diplomatic relations, the friendly cooperative relations of China and Lesotho have been developing steadily with the ever-expanding co-operation in various fields. The Chinese government appreciates Lesotho government's explicit position on the question of Taiwan over the years, which is one China policy and support for China's reunification. The two countries have conducted coordination and cooperation at UN and other multilateral fora. Lai believed that the relations between China and Lesotho will have a broader prospect of development in the future.
On the role of Chinese communities in Lesotho, Lai stressed that the overseas Chinese compatriots from both sides of Taiwan Straits have been cooperating very well with each other, and have been living and working harmoniously with the local people. The Chinese enterprises, while enjoying robust growth, have provided considerable job opportunities to the Basotho people, thus contributing to the Lesotho society in various ways. Many Basotho people have commending the positive role played by Chinese communities in the economic and social development of Lesotho and their hardworking, perseverance, upbeatness and optimism. The cooperation and integration between them are deepening.
Lai also introduced China's political structure, two Sessions of NPC and CPPCC", the 12th Five-Year Program and China's policies and practices concerning science and education, population, environment protection, climate change and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.
Matope thanked Lai for his candid, patient and comprehensive elaboration and hoped to keep in touch with the Chinese Embassy.
