On 19 August 2016, China-Lesotho People-to-People Friendship Action Fund and the Chinese Community and Security Cooperation Centre Lesotho in Mafeteng District held a drought relief donation to help 500 vulnerable households severely impacted by the long-lasting drought since last year.

H.E. Dr. Sun Xianghua (Ambassador of China to Lesotho), Hon. Selibe Mochoboroane (Minister of Energy), Hon. Khotso Letsatsi (Minister of Communications), Other Hon. Members of Parliament in Mafeteng, Mr. Hlalele Letsaba (District Administrator), representatives of the Fund and the Chinese Community, Members of Chinese Medical Team to Lesotho attended the event.

In his speech, Dr. Sun highly commended the efforts of the Lesotho Government and people to overcome the severe drought with tenacity, appreciated the Chinese Community's contribution to the local society, and hoped that both the Chinese and Basotho jointly rebuild their homeland and together celebrate the upcoming Lesotho's Independence Jubilee.

Hon. Letsatsi, Mr. Letsaba, and Representative of the MPs and Representative of recipients, respectively spoke to appreciate the continued efforts and assistance from the Chinese Embassy and Community. Hon. Mochoboroane, Hon. Letsatsi, Dr. Sun and representatives of the Chinese Community dispatched the donation packages to the vulnerable households. Representative of the local communities expressed their gratitude and their good will toward Lesotho-China friendship.

Chinese Medical Team also provided a free clinical service on the site, which were warmly welcomed by the local community.
