On 29 September 2016, the China-Lesotho People to People Friendship Action Fund and the Chinese Community and Security Cooperation Centre Lesotho held their last donation ceremony in Maseru, following the donation actions in the other 9 districts all over Lesotho. 700 vulnerable families from Maseru district were donated with food and daily essentials. H. E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho, Hon. Molahlehi Letlotlo, Minister of Social Development, Hon. Kotiti Diholo,Deputy Minister of Local Government, Hon. Mokhele Moletsane,Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Ezekiel Senti, Deputy PS of the Ministry of Police and Public Security and Ms Letsoela, District Administrator of Maseru attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Sun spoke highly of the Charity works for drought relief and helping the vulnerable families, done by the Fund, the Chinese Community and Security Cooperation Centre Lesotho, the Chinese Enterprises Association, the Association of Chinese Merchants and Manufactures in Lesotho, the Fujian compatriots association and the Fuqing Association. He indicated that the Maseru donation was the last stop of the assistance actions by the Chinese Community in Lesotho, drawing a successful conclusion for the actions all over Lesotho. There had been 3200 vulnerable families benefiting from the actions, of which tens of thousands multitudes' lives were assisted or even saved. These actions would be recorded as a much told story about the sincere exchanges and assistance between the two peoples, especially that between the Chinese Community in Lesotho and the Basotho people. It was believed that the Chinese Community would draw experiences and strength from the successful actions, and provide more assistance for the Basotho people in the coming days. It was also hoped the Basotho government and people provide guarantees for security and development of the Chinese Community.
Hon. Molahlehi Letlotlo expressed appreciation to the Chinese Community for their helping hand towards the Basotho vulnerables, which was a symbol of the profound and permanent friendship between the governments and peoples of China and Lesotho, also manifested China as a reliable friend of Lesotho. Lesotho felt not lonely when confronted by hardship, since China was always there providing assistance to Lesotho. The Chinese Government offered an immediate response to the Right Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Mosisili's appeal, by providing a big batch of emergency food aid. For the upcoming celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Lesotho, the Chinese government also financially assisted Lesotho, meanwhile the Chinese Community also provided 600 thousand maloti. Lesotho would always bear China's support in mind with thanks, actively develop its relations with this great country, and make the friendship benefit the two peoples.
