A Reception for Assuming Office in Honour of Chinese New Ambassador H.E. Yang Xiaokun

On August 20, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Lesotho held a reception for assuming office in honour of H.E. Ambassador Yang Xiaokun at Maseru Avani hotel. The event was attended by approximately 200 guests such as the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister, 12 cabinet ministers including the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, the former Speaker of Parliament, around 10 members of Senate and National Assembly, government officials, diplomats in Lesotho, and representatives from Chinese enterprises as well as the Chinese community.

In his speech, Ambassador Yang highlighted the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit to be held this September. He elaborated on the historical significance and main features of FOCAC, as well as important achievements in various fields of practical cooperation between China-Africa and China-Lesotho under FOCAC. He welcomed the Lesotho delegation to the Beijing Summit and wished for a successful and fruitful visit.

The Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Lejone Mpotjoane, on behalf of the Lesotho government, warmly welcomed Ambassador Yang. He expressed best wishes for the success of the Beijing Summit and anticipated significant outcomes in bilateral cooperation, aiming to build a high-level Lesotho-China community with a shared future. The Minister reaffirmed its adherence to the one-China principle and support for China’s complete reunification.

The atmosphere of the reception was lively and bustling with cordial conversations. A number of journalists from radio, television, magazines and newspapers attended and covered the successful event.
