On July 18, Ambassador Yang Xiaokun paid a courtesy call on President of the Senate Hon. Mamonaheng Mokitimi and Speaker of the National Assembly the Rt Hon. Tlohang Sekhamane, respectively. They exchanged views on friendly relations and legislative cooperation between China and Lesotho.
Ambassador Yang noted that in recent years, China-Lesotho friendly relations have deepened continuously, with fruitful exchanges and cooperation across various fields including legislative institutions. China appreciates Lesotho's longstanding adherence to the one-China principle and is willing to work together with Lesotho to elevate bilateral relations to new heights. Ambassador Yang also introduced the rich connotations, significant implications, and practical requirements of China's whole-process people's democracy and Chinese modernization.
Hon. President Mokitimi and Rt Hon. Speaker Sekhamane welcomed Ambassador Yang's assumption of office and expressed gratitude for China's extensive assistance and support to Lesotho's economic and social development over the years, including the construction of the new Parliament building and numerous opportunities for exchanges and training to China for staffs from both the Senate and the National Assembly in Lesotho. They reaffirmed that the Senate and the National Assembly of Lesotho will consistently uphold the one-China principle, oppose any form of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities, and support China's complete reunification.
