Counsellor Song Changqing Attended Lesotho Preliminary Contest of 12th Chinese Bridge Competition

On 30th August, Mr. Song Changqing, Political Counsellor of the Embassy of the  People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Lesotho attended the Preliminary Contest of the 12th Chinese Bridge competition hosted by the Confucius Classroom at the Machabeng College. Mrs. Mabakubung Seutloali, CEO of Secondary Education from the Ministry of Education and Training, Ms. J Shwimmer, Headmaster of the Machabeng College, Directors of the Confucius Classroom Mr. Thatho Pontso and Mrs. Nie Yali also attended the event.

 

In his remarks, Mr. Song highlighted that in recent years, the China-Lesotho relations have been growing from strength to strength with the people-to-people and cultural exchanges increasingly strengthened. This is the third year for the Confucius Classroom to hold the Chinese Bridge Preliminary Competition, which shows the rising interests in Chinese language and culture among young Basotho. He encouraged the students to work hard in learning Chinese so as to contribute to the development of China-Lesotho friendship.

 

Mrs. Mabakubung Seutloali extended congratulations to the competitors. She pointed out that the government of Lesotho attaches great importance to strengthening educational and cultural exchanges with China. She encouraged the Confucius Classroom to work harder as a bridge to provide more opportunities to the Basotho students and enthusiasts to learn Chinese, and promote the China-Lesotho friendship.

 

This year's Competition was themed by celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. 8 participants from the Confucius Classroom made speeches and answered questions on the history of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese traditional culture, arts, foods and etc. The participants also performed paper cutting, martial arts, dancing, poetry recital, pop songs etc.
